Each week for 12 weeks you will master a new strategic sourcing discipline. Along the way you'll complete "Mini-Projects," get instructor feedback and receive Specialist Certifications after successful completion of each unit exam. Here's how each week will break down...


  • Module 1: Procurement Basics

    Master the building blocks of procurement when you learn about contracts, negotiation, cost and finance. When working with vendors, contracts bind the details of our negotiated agreements, so you will learn how to prepare solicitations for bid and negotiate to get maximum value for your dollar. With contracts signed, you need to control expenses with budgets and cost savings strategies by analyzing your spend and using strategic sourcing.

  • Module 2: Corporate Citizenship

    Master the global economy by not only leveraging the advantages of overseas markets, but also employing socially responsible policies that promote value-first supply chain practices. Our global economy provides access to markets that give us an advantage with competitive pricing and access to international markets. Even local businesses profit more from a global supply chain. Ethical practices and corporate influence change the world when companies use the power of currency to make change.

  • Module 3: Sourcing

    Master sourcing when you use a competitive process to get the best value with strong supplier relationships that reduce your supply chain risk. Competition is the foundation of best value supply chain practices, so you will learn how to determine the best procurement strategy and use the RFP process to determine which offer provides the best value with your best vendors. Learn how to use your historical spend to get KNOW what your organization’s needs, so you can set up a best value logistics system that doesn’t miss a deadline.

  • Module 5: Best Value Management

    Master the process of getting the most from your supply chain with best-value material management practices and performance assessment tools. Your inventory costs can easily get out of control unless you’re standardizing, tracking, and planning the material you need to serve customers. Technology is the tool, people are the solution, so your inventory processes need to assess your internal team, external customers, and vendors with a measure what you manage philosophy.

  • Module 6: Planning

    Master procurement planning when you use systems to gather information so you can align supply management strategy to support your organization then participate in the product development process. With a clear understanding of your requirements, you will be able to implement strategies that reduce risk, so you can keep more profits. Planning is the key to long-term success.

  • Module 7: Project Management

    Project Management – Master project management so you can make changes and achieve results. When you use project management skills, you will create success by following a step-by-step procedure that coordinates activity and evaluates quality. Throughout the process, you will measure results and hit your targets by continuously improving supplier performance.

  • Module 8: Leadership

    Master Supply Chain Leadership, so you can get the best performance possible through trust and credibility. Everything happens or fails to happen as a result of your supply chain. This means your leadership skills need to accomplish results no matter who you are working with. Using skills of influence, you will transform your communication based on the behavior style of the person, so you are effective.

  • Module 9: Strategic Sourcing

    Master Strategic Sourcing when you bring it all together in this module. Strategic sourcing transforms your purchasing activities out of the back room and into the boardroom, so you supply chain aligns with your strategic objectives. Managing risk and meeting compliance regulations assures a dependable supply chain that avoids getting bogged down in red tape. Strategic Sourcing is the ultimate achievement in your supply chain, so you can focus on the future instead of stamping out fires.

  • Module 10: Marketing Strategic Sourcing

    Moving from the backroom to the boardroom as a strategic capability for your company requires more than just delivering results. You need to communicate those results so you are heard and respected for the profits you are generating for your company. With the strategies you will learn in this section, you will know how to develop the correct communication tools that deliver the message that sourcing is strategic, not tactical.

  • Module 11: Final Project

    Congrats…you’re done! Or are you? This is the week where This is the week where you prove you’re ready for the CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) designation. You’ll build a complete strategic sourcing plan for a real requirement that will improve your company. The best projects will be reviewed in a live seminar so we can all learn from the best in this class.

  • Module 12: Exam Strategy

    Passing the CPSM Certification Exams is more than knowledge about supply chain management. You need to know how to take the exams with a strategy for managing your time and staying focused. During this week, you will learn the key strategies for taking the CPSM Certification exams so you pass the first time.

HOW IT WORKS

Each unit is led by an industry expert, and is designed to be completed in a week (although students are allowed to work at their own pace).
  • On Mondays you'll receive access to the streaming video lessons for that particular unit. Each unit typically contains 2-4 hours of video, handouts, and an optional "Mini-Project"
  • On the following Tuesdays and Thursday, you'll attend an office hours session with the instructor where you can get your questions answered and get help completing your "Mini-Project"
  • On Friday you'll turn in your "Mini-Project" and take the Unit exam, both of which will be graded and reviewed by your instructor...
  • Upon successful completion of the Unit Exam, you will be rewarded with a specialist certificate and badge denoting your mastery of the subject...
Once you finish all 10 units, you will be invited to participate in the final class project, which leads you through application of the concepts so you are ready to take the certification exams and become a globally recognized Certified Professional in Supply Management.
